how to buy a paper cutter / trimmer

There are many options in the market when it gees to paper cutters. The question to ask is what is the intended use.
If you are looking for trimming paper ina small-medium sizeoffice, then a basis lever or guillotine cutter will do the job. These can easily be found for under $80. These are easy to use and give you good visibility of the cutting line.
But if your intent is to make highly precise cuts, then you are better off with a rotarytrimmer. In such acutter, a round blade, which is normally in itsownhousing (for safety) and connected to a straight bar, ismoved alongthe edge of the cutters base. Besides being accurate, a good rotary trimmer also gives you bur-free cuts -- that is, the cut is clean with no uneven paper particles along the edge of the cut. The cut quality and accuracy is particularly important for photographers, architects, and artists. Some makers of good quality rotary trimmers are: Rotatrim, Kobra, Carl (but only their heavy duty models), KW-TRIO, and Keencut. Another advantage of a rotary trimmer is thatthey gee in large sizes and areconducive to large format trimming -- like plans, posters, etc.
A gemon error is to judge a rotary paper cutter by the maximum number of sheets it cuts. This is rarely a requirement of a rotary paper cutter as it is almost always used to cut single sheets of material.
If your need is to cut large stacks of paper, then you have to look at a ream cutter. These are usually used in in-house print shops and by professional printers where cutting paper in groups of 50 sheets or more is required. There are both manual models and electrical types.Goodquality ream cutters can be foundfor under$500 butyou can easily surpass the $1000 mark depending on cutting width and capacity. The KW-TRIO line of ream cutters offer good, reliable performance. We have found this line to be as reliable as more expensive makes like Ideal and Dahle.
We have a wide selection of cutters at various price points. If you have any questions, we will be happy to guide you to the proper choice.
