While the Rainbow is by far the longest lasting and absolutely the best working vacuum cleaner, some models are better than others, and becuase they look so much alike, many dealers are getting away with cheating buyers. The most current model is the E2 model, and while it looks almost identical to an E model, there are some slight differences that a lot of guys seem to leave out of their listings by either ignorance of dishonesty.
Here's the difference: The E2 is the newest model and is worth, in some cases, as much as a thousand dollars more. This is the first, and only model that gees with a 2 stage switch so that it can be run as an air purifier in silent mode 24/7. If the unit you are looking at does not have a two stage motor, it is an older E series and not an E2. I have had guys argue this point about their listings... They are absolutely either liars or ignorant if they argue about it, so do not bid. Be skeptical if they are unwilling to send you a close up picture of the main switch.
The older models are the D4, the SE, and the SE PE. All of these machines are considered "D" series machines, and all have about the same motor in them. If they are well maintained, they are worth bidding on, but if they are filthy, or have been stored on the basin, they are junk. A rainbow that hasn't been maintained well will not last very long, so don't bid unless you see close up pictures of the basin and seperator.
The Rainbow is the best vac that money can buy, but because of their long-term value and similiarity of models, you can really get ripped off if you don't know youre stuff.
Good Luck!
